Lotus is one of the Ashtamangalas (eight auspicious symbols of Buddhism ) that signifies purity and enlightenment. Even though the lotus is rooted in the muddy water, it grows above the mud to blossom. This symbolizes how one should rise and bloom above the mire to achieve purity of the mind and the spirit.
