MAHA SHIVARATRI

Maha Shivaratri is literally translated to "The great night of Shiva".
lord Shiva is also called Adiyogi, being the first of all yogis. Maha Shivaratri is one of the most significant festivals for the Hindu community.

It is believed that on this day earth witnesses an increase in energy levels because of its unique planetary position.
There are several legends behind this celebration. According to popular belief on this day Shiva married shakti (Parvati) while others believe that  Lord Shiva swallowed poison to save the universe on this day.

many devotees across the world observe fast and worship Lord Shiva by chanting Shiva mantras and place their offerings in the form of milk, fruits and bael leaves.

However, Maha Shivaratri holds a special place among Yogis and they often celebrate this day by chanting mantras or performing meditations for longer hours and devote the day's practice to shiva in order to honour him being the "ADIYOGI".

well, today at Shiva Shakti yoga school we expressed our devotion and gratitude by chanting "shiva and shakti kirtana and Gayatri mantra.

so on this day let us pray to the patron of yoga and experience that divinity within yourself.
